"I gotta go read these newspapers and see what is really going on, and find out where Brian is," Sharon started up the car and pulled off.

Tears tumbled like weeds from her eyes while she held her stomach reading the headline, "Man dies in house explosion". It was like her world was caving in, leaving her all alone. It had to be a curse placed upon her from the day she met Mack Boogie, and everything attached to a child and her happiness was doomed.

"No wonder his statements were dismissed," she sobbed trying to pull herself back together.

The bottle of Moscato was calling her name, but she couldn't do that knowing it could hurt her unborn fetus. Even though stress and heartache was pulling her down, being a mother to her unborn was more important than raising it alone. She knew with or without a father, she could bring happiness to her baby's life. Growing up with both parents alive, she knew a man could run off and do what he wanted to do and leave a woman to fend for herself.

"If yo’ lil’ fast ass run out of town and get pregnant by some sorry nigga, remember that’s your child and you gone be stuck raising it. I done raised you and I chose not to have no more kids so I damn sho’ ain't raisin’ no more," her mother's words rang in her head as she decided to submerse her body in hot water and bubbles.

Sharon pulled up that old Cheryl Pepsi Riley song, Thanks for my child, and put it on repeat as the words soothed her tears. As much as she wanted her child to have a father, finally becoming a mother had set her mind at ease. Just thinking about that bundle of joy turned tears of sorrow into tears of joy. Her thoughts shifted from the tragedy to her department doing what shouldn't have been done.

Putting her name and face in the paper as wanted, when she actually came to this town as an undercover was really pissing her off. "They blew my cover! That's how she knew who I was," Sharon said aloud as she lathered her body with soap. Betrayal was at the end of her career, and although she had done her share, she’d forgotten as she became furious with the department.

"That's a violation of my rights without any charges being filed, and an endangerment to my life. I guess this city will be paying dearly for that mistake," Sharon hissed, rinsing her body to step out of the tub and get comfortable so she could sift through paperwork. She wanted to make sure she had everything together before she confronted her superiors and before speaking with a lawyer.
